In a large pot, cook the bacon bits over medium heat until they are crispy. Remove and set aside, leaving the bacon fat in the pot.
Add the diced onion to the pot and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
Add the diced potatoes and continue to cook for another 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Pour in the milk and bring to a gentle simmer. Cook until the potatoes are tender, about 15 minutes.
Add the canned corn, including its liquid, to the pot and stir to combine. Cook for an additional 5 minutes.
Season the chowder with salt and black pepper to taste.
