In a skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of butter over medium-high heat. Add sliced onions and sauté until soft and caramelized, about 10 minutes. Remove from skillet and set aside.
In the same skillet, form 500g of ground beef into 4 patties, season with salt and pepper. Cook each patty for about 5 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through.
Add the cooked onions back to the skillet with the patties. Pour in 1 cup of beef broth, scraping the bottom of the skillet. Let simmer for another 5 minutes until the gravy thickens slightly.
Meanwhile, toast 4 burger buns in a separate pan until golden. Assemble the burgers by placing each patty on a bun, topping with onion gravy and any additional toppings of your choice.
